Cultural Olympiad
The London 2012 Games are not just about sport. They will also celebrate cultures, people and languages – in London, the UK and around the world.
The themes of the Cultural Olympiad are:
- Welcoming the world
- Inspiring Young people
- Generate a positive legacy
The four-year Cultural Olympiad started on 26-28 September with a range of programmes.
LOCOG’s Creative Programmers network
With support from the Department for Culture, Media and Sport and other cultural and regional agencies, there’s one for each of the English regions, Northern Ireland and Wales; two for London and the Creative Programmer for Scotland will join soon. They will all have a particular focus on supporting local and regional projects as well as helping shape the UK-wide programme.
London has two creative programmers:
Hadrian Garrard covers cultural projects in the five host boroughs of Newham, Tower Hamlets, Greenwich, Waltham Forest and Hackney. Hadrian can be contacted at hadrian.garrard@host-boroughs.org.uk
Sarah Barnwell covers cultural projects in the remaining 27 boroughs and the City of London. Sarah can be contacted on sarahbarnwell@lda.gov.uk
Check if you could be eligible for support from the creative programmers.
Culture 2012 – the Opportunities Start Now
The London Cultural Consortium, the Mayor’s Office and the Arts Council have just announced plans and outline funding for cultural activity in the run up to 2012.
The Inspire Programme
