Sports Activity

You may not be an Olympian or a Paralympian (yet!), but if you (or the people your organisation supports) are inspired to get involved in sporting activity, then try these suggestions:

Winter of Sport
Were you inspired by the Beijing 2008 Games to try something new? The Winter of Sport initiative is run by the LDA and is your chance to get involved in some sport – even if it’s completely new to you, or it’s been more years than you care to remember since you last tried sport. Use the “Find your nearest event” box on the left to enter your postcode to see what comes up! (We know it says Summer of Sport in the name of the site, but it still works in winter!)

Your local leisure centre
Look in the phone book, or try your local Council’s website to find yours.

Active Places
The Active Places website is designed to help you find out more about places to play sport in your local area. Their database lists everything from sports halls to ski slopes, swimming pools to health and fitness. It includes local authority leisure facilities as well as commercial and club sites.

Try My Sport
Try My Sport has been designed to help you find a new sport. Use the online tool to find out more about a range of interesting activities.

Sports governing bodies
Often a useful source of information: find the contact details for all the governing bodies in the UK.

Sporting Champions
Sporting Champions is a Sport England initiative, which brings world-class athletes face-to-face with young people to inspire and motivate them to participate in sport.
